Legz-ing it...

                            Legzdins set to join Rams

As of today (Friday) Burton Albion player of the season and fans player of the season Adam Legzdins looks set to complete a move to Derby County for an undisclosed fee. In fairness to Adam, a talented young goalkeeper with the ability to move up a level based on last seasons performances it should come as no surprise that interest from higher leagues has come about.

The deal in a sense could benefit Burton significantly as the transfer fee being thrashed out looks to be up there with some of the biggest in Albion club history and with Derby 'keeper Ross Atkins being used to lever the transfer by way of season-long loan it could work in Burton's favour.

However, with a rickety defence and Legzdins palms being responsible for more than the Brewer's fair share of points won last season it would be quite understandable to find the Burton boys on Adams driveway attempting to shoot out the tyres with terms yet to be agreed.

With summer signings of Chris Palmer (Billed as having quote "a better delivery than postman pat") and Cleveland Taylor to replace the departed Russell Penn and the probably soon to depart Jaques Maghoma (Negotiations ongoing) its looking like a thinner squad than last season by a long stretch. The big concern for me is the quality coming into the side and given last seasons near miss with the drop there is drastic improvement to be made if the Brewer's are going to stand any chance of pushing up the league.

With Calvin Zola a whisker away from a work permit the striking options look moderately more healthy, if indeed Pesch is planning to play one up front with Greg Pearson the only other option after the departures of Richard Walker (Out of contract) and Sam Winnall returning to Wolves after last season loan spell.

Having said that though its still very early days in the transfer market with the dust of last season still settling the hard work starts today as teams return for pre-season training its hard to know which will be worked harder, the squad or Paul Peschisolido's mobile phone.
