Safety First
Well, its nearly that dreaded time of year, the end of the football season. With no football over the summer and having to suffer the faux-tension of Andy Murray at Wimbledon carrying the hopes of a nation its got to be one of the most depressing periods for football supporters around the country.
Still, we're not quite there yet and for some team's around the divisions its squeaky bum time. Especially in League two as the mighty Brewer's look to have all but secured their stay in the division with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Torquay United on Monday and an away win.......yes that's not a typing error....an away win against Aldershot Town at the weekend. So what were we all worried about? Aside from the mathematical hoo-ha Paul Peschisolido can relax this week until a trip to the seaside to take on Southend and (hopefully) cement that place in League two.
The relegation twist has taken yet another turn with Barnet's thumping 4-2 demolition against the odd's away to Gillingham and Stockport dragging Northampton closer to joining them in the Blue Square Conference by way of a 2-2 draw in addition to Lincoln and Hereford joining in the fun and games at the foot of the table its set for a final day flourish. Barnet impressed a great deal with the demolition job Kabba and co inflicted on Burton at the Pirelli and even through the set-back of losing Martin Allen to Notts County they remain resilient under the stewardship of old favourite Guiliano Grazioli. Northampton on the other hand have been woeful this second half of the season after parting company with manager Ian Sampson, Gary Johnson just hasn't been able to find any consistency from the Cobbler's and the drop is looming large unless they can find the points from the remaining games at home to high-flighing Stevenage and a tricky trip away to Morcambe.
We'll be keying RH11 9RX into the sat nav next season as Crawley Town will be joining us in League Two after promotion from the Conference, the play off picture as to who will join Crawley has shaped up as the four teams are now confirmed, one of Luton, Fleetwood Town, AFC Wimbledon or Wrexham will become a football league side, two of which have never been at that level previously.
So with more Brewer's fixtures, more grounds and more new fans to entertain its looking to be a great season 2011/12.
