Burton Albion vs Barnet - Match Preview

Saturday see's a crucial tie at the foot of League two as Barnet travel to the Pirelli Stadium to meet Burton Albion and your's truly shall be there on the terraces to give you the full story post-match. Things didn't go the way of the Brewer's on Sunday away to Oxford after a 3-0 pasting and two red cards making a grand total of six players unavaliable for mid-week selection.

Having said that it's not all doom and gloom around the place as a quite remarkable comeback against Macclesfield town on Wednesday night restored the gap between Burton and the weekend's opponents to five points with Albion still having three games in hand over the bottom two sides. With Nathan Stanton having made the bench in mid-week and with Penn, Parkes and Moore having served their time in the sin-bin, Burton look a great deal stronger than the previous two matches and at just the right time.

Barnet on the other hand have been rather busy of late by bringing back old gaffer Martin 'mad dog' Allen who, in turn, has decided to go transfer-crazy bringing in three players since getting his feet under the desk again at Underhill in addition to adding old Barnet favourite and FA cup hero of old Guliano Grazioli as assistant manager.

Allen for me, as a Leicester City supporter. holds a mix of memories, from his ludicrous 'World cup 5-a-side' training methods where the main prize on offer was a £9.99 barbecue set commandered from B&Q with Mars bar's for the runners up and afterwards a session of cleaning the training ground toilets resulting somehow in an impressive 4-1 opening day win over Watford.

I never quite knew what to make of Allen, but no one can fault the mans passion and enthusiasm for the game in which he specialised at this level with Brentford and Cheltenham and being no stranger to the Bee's is a massive advantage with so little of the season left. Saturday no doubt will be a tough test for both teams but with Albion in the ascendancy and Barnet having faught a respectable 2-2 draw with leaders Chesterfield at home on Saturday its set to be a close encounter and who knows, perhaps Allen will have his players forking the pitch at half time?

See you on Saturday.
